Radford School Board Governance Model

Radford School is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization existing to provide college preparatory education. As such, Radford School operates using a non-profit form of governance rather than the form of management used by public schools, which are political bodies subject to open meeting requirements. The Board follows principles of policy governance, whereby the Board sets broad policies within which the school is to operate but does not interject itself into its operations. No individual board member has any authority over school personnel or procedures, nor does any individual board member have the power to speak for the school. The Board believes in the one-voice power of our Executive Director, who is accountable to the entire Board, not to any individual board member.

Board Meetings

The Board concerns itself with school policy and strategic planning rather than with daily operation. Therefore, curriculum, personnel, and student policies are primarily determined by our Executive Director with assistance from the administrative team and other staff members, subject to parameters set forth in Board policies.

Board Member Selection

The Board is self-perpetuating. All potential Board members must be nominated from within the Board, although names may be suggested for consideration by anyone.

    My family has had a close relationship with Radford for over half a century. The Radford traditions have become our traditions. "Disco Ut Servem" applies just as readily to all our board members. I once read that “The Strength of the Child is the Power of the Nation.” 


             I have an MBA and many years of experience as an administrator at the County of El Paso.


            I love all of Radford’s traditions. ​​​​How wonderful it must be to grow up experiencing them throughout your childhood. Personally, the Dining experience appeals to me the most. It is a symphony of tradition, nourishment, and fellowship. It is a place where our kids learn to socialize with the world around them. Plus, the Welcome Song is pure magic!

    As an alumni of Radford School, I am honored to give back to an institution of learning that gave me so much. Learning at Radford is holistic, from the tough college preparatory academic curriculum to the many traditions that promote social growth and learning, such as the dining experience, which fosters etiquette, and Senior Dinner, which emphasizes public speaking and gratitude for all Radford School gives. As Secretary for the Board and Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee, I am excited to serve alongside a group of talented and dedicated professionals focused on ensuring Radford's success for generations of students to come. 


                I graduated Valedictorian of Radford School in 2014 and graduated Magna Cum Laude from St. Edward's University in 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science. I previously worked for then State Representative Cesar J. Blanco (now serving as State Senator) in Austin while a student at St. Edward's and


    after I graduated as his Field Representative, before serving as Director of External and Legislative Affairs for AT&T, I served as Public Policy Analyst for El Paso County Commissioner David Stout. I currently serve on the El Paso Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board and am actively involved with the Borderplex Alliance and the Texas Border Coalition. 


                My favorite Radford tradition is Senior Dinner. I thoroughly enjoy hearing the seniors thank their teachers and families for all they've done to prepare them to take on their world, as it shows the deep reflection of what their time at Radford has meant. It is equally gratifying and fulfilling to see the teachers and staff be recognized for their efforts over the time they've imparted knowledge to their students. 

  • Board Secretary, Development Committee Chair, Planning Committee, Academic Affairs and Personnel Committee

    My role on the Radford Board of Directors is to provide consultation, technical support, and direction for the school concerning the various facets of the school’s information technology requirements. These responsibilities include network infrastructure support, access control systems, monitoring of school property, VoIP Phone Systems, and application software for both the administration and faculty.


             Undergraduate degrees in Business Administration and Computer Science with a minor in Biology. Graduate courses in Business and Manufacturing. In addition, vendor-approved credentials in IP-Based camera solutions, access control technologies, and network topologies.


             The dining hall meal service and student comradery 


    at Radford has to be my favorite tradition at the school regardless of grade level. 

  • Academic Affairs and Personnel Committee and Collections Committee, Safety Subcommittee

      I am fortunate to have a long history of Radford in my life. I attended Radford in my youth. My granddaughter attended, start to finish. I have lived in the neighborhood for nearly half of my life, and I intrinsically know that what’s suitable for Radford is good for Austin Terrace.


             OJT comes to mind with nearly three decades of service to the Board. As a young woman, I was a traveling migrant nurse. I sold real estate for many years. I’ve been a doting grandmother enjoying it most during her formative years at Radford School.


             All of Radford’s traditions are unique and heartfelt. But, without a doubt, May Fete is the most memorable tradition for me. Every year I watch, I am filled with pride for our school and


     


    our outstanding students. Furthermore, at 112 years old, Radford is one of El Paso’s favorite traditions!

    I believe that education is one of the pillars of success in life. An individual with a solid educational foundation possesses the tools to achieve their own personal definition of success. I accepted the opportunity to serve on this board to help facilitate that every student, parent, and staff member is well-positioned to continue the Radford tradition of excellence. 


    I graduated from Midland High School in 1983 and earned my Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from West Texas A&M University. I have owned and operated two successful businesses in the Information Technology sector. I currently work for Calian Corporation as a Senior Solutions Architect serving clients in the Texas and New Mexico region. In addition, I serve on the board of the El Paso County Historical Society.


    It is very difficult to select a singular Radford tradition as my favorite. Rather I believe the transmission of all our Radford customs or beliefs from generation to generation creates the unique Radford experience that is so cherished by its recipients.

  • Planning Committee and Collections Committee

      I was a Radford parent from 2012 to 2017, and attending this school changed my son’s life in profound ways. My Board service is how I express my gratitude for that gift.


             In 1980 I received my BA  from Trinity University, San Antonio, TX, and in 1981 my MBA from Texas A&M International University in Laredo, TX. I have 20 Years of experience in Pharmaceuticals Sales, and I am currently employed by Amarin Pharmaceutical Corporation. 


             The Radford tradition that I enjoy the most is the Dining Hall because it is a robust mentoring program. Younger students form essential relationships with older mentors, and those students develop leadership skills due to their daily interactions. In addition, it fosters informal conversations between teachers and students that extend learning.

  • Collections Committee

             Originally from Chihuahua, Mexico, Linda came to Radford School in 1964 to learn English. In 1981 Linda enrolled her son, Michael, in first grade, and in 1983 he graduated as Valedictorian of his class. Linda came back as a parent and became President of the RPTO. In 1985 she was invited to join the Board of Directors and has served for 36 years.
